Department Overview

History and Leadership
The Department of Hindi was established in 1968 with the aim of promoting the Hindi language and literature. The department's leadership initially began with Prof. K.D. Jose, followed by Prof. P.V. Francis, and then Prof. A.S. Varghese. In 2011, Dr. Raju C.P. took over as the Head of the Department. Dr. Raju C.P., a distinguished academic, serves as a Research Supervisor at the University of Calicut and has been honored with several national and international awards for his contributions to the field. In memory of Prof. K.D. Jose, a Former Student has instituted an
Endowment of Rs. 1000/- to award a prize to the student who scores the highest marks in Hindi in the B.A. / B.Sc. University Examinations.
Academic Offerings and Student Engagement
Each year, approximately 150 students choose Hindi as their second language. At the undergraduate level, Hindi is offered as an additional language, with students who have a strong background in Hindi or Sanskrit at the Plus Two level having the option to take it as an elective. The department provides a Multi-Disciplinary Course in Hindi, integrating language skills with broader academic and professional contexts.
Faculty and Research
The faculty of the Department of Hindi is actively engaged in professional development, attending national and international faculty development programs, conferences, and seminars. They frequently present research papers and have published numerous articles in national and international peer-reviewed and UGC-listed journals. Dr. Raju C.P also contributes as a UG board member for Calicut University and various autonomous institutions, serves on boards of international journals, participates in professional bodies, has published two books, and acts as an editor for Hindi textbooks.
Cultural and Academic Celebrations
The department celebrates National Hindi Day on September 14 th and International Hindi Day on January 10 th each year. These events include various competitions for students to promote the Hindi language and recognize their achievements with prizes. Additionally, we organize national seminars for both students and faculty to foster academic discourse and engagement.
Teaching Methods and Innovations
Our teaching approach incorporates modern methods, including the use of audio-visual aids, to enhance the learning experience. The department is committed to providing innovative and effective educational practices to ensure students gain a thorough understanding of Hindi and its applications.
The Department of Hindi continues to play a vital role in the academic and cultural life of the institution, preparing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in a globalized world while staying deeply connected to their cultural roots.

We aim to empower individuals with exceptional communication skills, enhance job opportunities, and cultivate a deep connection with Indian and Kerala culture through comprehensive and innovative educational practices.

Our mission encompasses the development of advanced Hindi communication skills, an enhancement of literary knowledge, expansion of career opportunities, celebration of cultural heritage, and creation of a supportive learning environment.
